We are sad to announce that on December 3, 2023, at the age of 91, Joan Bailey McElrath Hellar of Greenville, South Carolina passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her son Robert J. McElrath; and her grandson James Benson "Ben" Griffin. She is survived by : her husband C. Albert Hellar of Inman, SC; her brother Dr. George O. Bailey, MD of Anderson, SC.; her daughters, Helen M. Griffin of Newberry, SC, Beth M. Mitcheltree of Simpsonville, SC and Anna R. McElrath of Greenville; her daughter-in-law Crela L. McElrath of Taylors; and her grandchildren, Leslie M. Hoffman (Brent) of Greenville, Erin M. Roach (Jared) of Nashville, TN and Bradley McElrath (Maria) of Eugene, OR. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Washington Baptist Church, 3500 SC Highway 14, Greer, SC or to a charity of one's choice.
