He was predeceased by: his parents, Bobbie Payne and Charlie Payne; his brother-in-law Jim Lewis; his grandparents, Gorrell, Pearl Payne, Colin and Bruce Cranford; and his uncle Charles Cranford.

He is survived by: his wife Elaine Elrod Payne; his children, Bradley Payne (Angeline) and Lauren Fulmer (Clayton); his grandchildren, Alice, Charlie Fulmer, Addyson Payne, Kalyn and Sean Miles; his sisters, Andi Kdan (Scott) and Jami Lewis; his nephew Ben Kdan (Sophia); and his friend Billy Jones. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church Greenville Music Ministry, the Gap Creek Singers Scholarship Fund, or the Greenville Humane Society.
