He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Higdon and Iona Higdon; his siblings, C. B. Higdon (Barbara), Vera Jo Henegar (Howard) and Charles Cox (June); and his parents-in-law, Roma and Carrie Shelby of LaFollette.
He is survived by: his wife Liz; his sons, Robert Jack Higdon, Jr. (Corinne) of Cary and John Shelby Higdon (Jill) of Greenville; his grandsons, Robert Claiborne Higdon of Cary and Matthew Smith Higdon (Avery King) of Raleigh; and his cousins, Bill Cox (Syondra) of Marco Island, Jerry Higdon (Becky) of Hoschton, Georgia, Ronnie Higdon (Peggye) of Winston-Salem and Samuel Higdon (Pam) of Wake Forest. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
