He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillian Ester Mitchell and James Mitchell; and his siblings, James Mitchell Jr., Rachel Hall, Roberta Mitchell, Shirley Washington and Robert Lee Mitchell.

He is survived by: his daughter Lesa Slack; his stepdaughters, Valerie Magee and Barbara Carter; his grandson William Slack; his close friend Edith Bryant; Keva Bryant and Arkita Bryant.
