He was predeceased by: his parents, William Curtis Whaley and Anne Barrington Whaley; his son-in-law William Kinney; his grandson Kyle Whaley; and his brothers, L. "Jeep" Whaley and Barry Whaley.

He is survived by: his wife Rose Gomillion Whaley; his children, Michael Whaley (Terri) of Anderson and Susan Kinney of Greenwood; his sister Louise Edenfield of North Augusta; his grandchildren, Lauren Greer (Jonathan) of Hodges, Ryan Boggs (Mason) of Greenwood, Taylor Bottini (Bailey) of Greenville and Jackson Whaley of Charleston; his great grandchildren, Wyatt, Maci Greer and Weston Whaley Boggs; and his caregiver Beth Evans.
