He was predeceased by: his parents, James William Thompson, Sr. and Betty Padgett Thompson; and his siblings, Sandra Jane Davis and James "Jimmy" William Thompson, Jr.. He is survived by: his brother David B. Thompson (Kim) of Pacolet; his niece Kelly Davis of Batesburg; his cousin Mary Jo Snowden; and his close friend Angela Rowland.
