He was loved and cherished by many people including: wife: Margaret Simmons Compton; parents: John DeVore Compton, Sr. and Lassie H. Compton; siblings: Sandra Marlene Compton and Rev. Daniel Ellis Compton; children: John D. Compton, III (Marianella), Dr. Daniel Burts Compton (Jennie) and Dr. Stephanie C. Turner (Dr. Allan Turner); grandchildren: Chloe Margaret Compton (Jack McCarley), Darcy C. DuBose (Will), Charles DeVore Compton, Elizabeth Margaret Fassler (Bailey), Samuel Anthony Compton, John Pearson Turner, Mary Grace Compton, Lydia Margaret Turner, Isabella Bazo and Anna Elizabeth Turner; other: Dr. Charles Bailey Bobo.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Blyth Funeral Home (1425 Montague Ave Ext, Greenwood, SC 29649). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Greenwood (722 Grace St, Greenwood, SC 29649).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Greenwood, 722 Grace Street, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home.
