He was predeceased by : his parents, William Morris and Ethel Mae Powell Roper. He is survived by : his wife Jane Roper; his sisters-in-law, Susan Burton and Dolores Purdue; and his niece Tammy Roundtree Sampson of Greenwood.

Memorials may be made to the Coach Gary Roper Scholarship Fund at the Lakelands YMCA, Connie Maxwell Children's Ministries, or St. Mark United Methodist Church.
