He was predeceased by: his wife Winifred Gravitt Benton; his parents, Henry Paxton Benton and Elizabeth Miranda Busbee Benton; and his siblings, Albert "Pack" Benton, Wesley Benton, Eugene "Gene" Benton, Myrtice Bloodworth, Ruby Loyd, Margaret Lairsey, Deoris Vinson, Marie York and Evelyn Roberts.

He is survived by: his sons, Randall J. Benton (Jan) of Columbia and Steve L. Benton (Suzanne) of Greer; his grandchildren, Joseph Paxton Benton (Lauren), Jaymeson Hope Benton and Brandon Lewis Benton (Bailee); and his great grandchildren, Emmalyn Kate Benton, Ellie Taylor Benton and James Paxton Benton.
