A native of Taylors, South Carolina, son of the late Charles Lee and Gladys Montez Gilreath Cox, he was a Greer High School graduate class of 1970 and of the Christian faith.

Surviving are his wife, Gail Lorraine Miller Cox of the home; one daughter, Jaime Michelle Smith (Jason) of Wellford, South Carolina; one son, Phillip W. "Phil" Cox II of Startex, South Carolina; one brother, Wayne Cox (Diane) of Taylors, South Carolina; two sisters, Marci Poston (Ricky) of Fountain Inn, South Carolina and JoRita Hodges of Taylors, South Carolina; and one grandchild, Joshua.

Mr. Cox was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Lee Cox.

A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Joshua Godfrey.
