He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Lee Steen and Carrie Mae Griggs Steen; his wife Evelyn Gainey Steen; and his siblings, L. C. Steen, Sidney Steen, Dorothy Kirven and Floreet Johnson.

He is survived by: his children, Randy Steen (Beth) of Winston Salem, NC, Ricky Steen (Cindy) of Hartsville, SC, Sharon Brunson (Bryan) of Hartsville, SC and Ginger King (David) of Hartsville, SC; his siblings, Wayne Steen (Larue) of Hartsville, SC, Avise Crowley (C. W.) of Hartsville, SC and Marie Euten (Ricky) of Hartsville, SC; and his grandchildren, Courtney Ray (David), Craig Steen (Kara), Carey Dorhan (Brendan), Amanda Turner (Bryan), Andrew Brunson (Casey), Heather Neal (Jeremy), Daniel Steen and Derrick Steen. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
