He was predeceased by: his parents, Alford Butterfield and Mattie Caretha Cribb Newell; and his siblings, Eugene Newell, Harold Newell, Everett Newell, Harriett Stone, Gladys Riser and Betty Mullins.
He is survived by: his sisters, Mildred Prosser, Margie Cox (Lonnie Wayne) and Joyce Phillips (Charles). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
