Kay Smith Obituary

We announce the death of Kay Smith of Hickory Grove, South Carolina, who passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 93. Kay will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Rev. Ammer Lee Howell and Jessie Tate; her husband Otha Pressley Smith; her siblings, Joe Howell, Bishop Howell, Larry Howell, David Howell, James Howell and Winifred Helen Gaffney; and her great grandchild Kaleb Gwinn.

She is survived by: her children, Shirley S. Gwinn (BJ) of Hickory Grove, SC, Sheila S. Tate (Herman) of Hickory Grove, SC and Elder Otha L. Smith (Beverlyn) of York, SC; her grandchildren, Jonathan Smtih, Tre'Gwinn (Amanda), Michelle Smith, Otha Lee Smith, Jr. (Shantell), Clinton Gwinn (Jessica), Clayton Gwinn, Denetria Gwinn, Samantha S. Vaughn (Justin) and LaBresha Gwinn; her siblings, Doris Stevens (Bobby) of Middletown, Connecticut and Willie Arthur Howell of Spartanburg, SC; her sisters-in-law, Carrie Leach, Frances Leech, Liza Howell and Willie B. Howell; and her cousin Emma Good. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
