He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Gambrell and Effie Lollis Gambrell; his son Thomas Jack Gambrell; and his siblings, A. C. Gambrell, Dewey Gambrell, Ray Gambrell, Ethel Vaughn, Mae Arnold and Mary Lou Strickland.

He is survived by: his wife Nellie Roseanne Cannon Gambrell; his daughters, Sue Ross of Honea Path and Sherry Gorman (Del) of Honea Path; his sisters, Clara Bell Vaughn of Honea Path and Helen Sparks of Belton; his grandchildren, Wayne Ross, Linda Ross, Timothy Gorman, Trevor Gorman, Cade Gambrell and Kinsley Gambrell; and his great grandchildren, Bradley Ross, Jacob Ross, Stephanie Ross and Tatum Gambrell.
