He was predeceased by : his parents, William Gowan Clayton, Sr. and Jeanette King Clayton; his wife Doris Alverson Clayton; and his siblings, Willie Mae Clayton, Pearl Payne, Annie Clayton, William Gowan Clayton, Jr., John Ervin Clayton and Marvin Clayton.

He is survived by : his daughters, Rhonda Williams (Morris) and Kim Spakes (Mike); his sister Joyce Farmer; his grandsons, Justin Williams (Stephanie), Shane Williams (Mandy) and Clayton Spakes (Amanda); and his great grandchildren, Asher Matthews, Harleigh Belle Williams, Reagan Williams, Penelope Williams, Jackson Spakes, Waylon Spakes and Kirby Williams.
