He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hargrove Montgomery Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Montgomery (Poag); and his sisters, Stultz Follin of Nevada, Mary Reid Newton and Margaret Elizabeth Montgomery.

He is survived by: his wife Agnes Montgomery; his children, Catherine Rebecca Rausch (Jeffrey Lynn Rausch), Agnes Montgomery Elliott (Wayne Vivian Elliott III), James Hargrove Montgomery III (Raury Blackmon Montgomery), Tracy Montgomery Rush (Joel Craig Rush) and Mary Margaret Montgomery (Nancy Jane Muntner); his grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey David Rausch (Jeanne), Caroline Rebecca Albanese (Zach), Lauren Rausch Langford (Robert), James Hargrove Montgomery IV (Stacy), Joshua Patrick Montgomery, Jordan Blackmon Montgomery, Wayne Vivian Elliott IV, Mary Elliott Oxley (Cole), Elizabeth Montgomery Rush, David Heriot Rush and Jonathan Talbert Rush; and his great grandchildren, Jaeger Rausch, Laurel Rausch, Curt Rausch, Oliver Albanese, Hazel Albanese, Theodore Albanese, Camille Albanese, Molly Montgomery and Riviera Langford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
