He was predeceased by: his siblings, James Pope "Buddy" Brooks, Jr. and Annette Brooks Cathcart. He is survived by: his wife Jane Brooks; his children, Deborah Brooks Durden (Kevin Durden) and John Joseph Brooks, Jr. (Becky Sharpe Brooks); and his grandchildren, James Andrew Durden (Elizabeth Francis Durden), Susan Brooks Durden, Angela Jane Brooks Durden, John Joseph Brooks, III and Blaire Brooks Howell (Louis Peyton Howell, III). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
