He was predeceased by: his mother Nancy Hart Love Abernethy. He is survived by: his father Zane William Abernethy, Sr. of Columbia; his sister Jill Abernethy of Charlotte; and his nephews, Grant Rider of Columbia and Garrett Rider of Boone. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and his crew of lifelong friends.

A memorial service was held on Friday, November 7th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel (7600 Woodrow St, Irmo, SC 29063).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Centennial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in his honor.
