He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Payne and Minnie Catoe Payne; his wife Edith Bradley "Joyce" Payne; his daughter Deborah P. "Debbie" Thomas; his granddaughter Heather Horton; and his siblings, H. B. Payne, Ollie Mae Payne Bartell, Alma Payne Scott, William Payne, Wilma Payne Lucas, Junior Payne, Jessie Payne, Arleva Payne Wallace, Mendel Payne and Johnnie Payne.
He is survived by: his daughter Rhonda P. Joyner (Gary) of Kershaw, S. C.; his son-in-law Dennis Thomas of Bethune, S. C.; his grandchildren, Candace Eubanks (Doug), Jamie Thomas, Anna Croxton (Luke), Stephen Joyner and Allen Thomas (Tiffany); his great grandchildren, Hailey (David), Clark, Skylar, Makenna, Audra and Noah; and his great great grandchildren, Zach, Zayden and Zeland.
A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, July 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church (2140 McBee Hwy, Jefferson, SC 29718).
