He was predeceased by : his parents, Franklin Brooks Thompson and Mabel Altman Thompson; his grandson Quentin Thompson; and his sisters, June Stewart, Mary Thompson and Ann Goins.

He is survived by : his children, Sandy Fowler and Greg Thompson (Kim); his grandchildren, Matthew Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Elizabeth Thompson and Leann Thompson; and his siblings, Talmadge Thompson, Willie Thompson, Leatha Mae Morris, Susie Fryar and Georgia Dennis.
