He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas O. Dawkins and Beulah W. Dawkins; and his siblings, Thomas "Sonny" Dawkins, Mary E. Hanna, Ruby Catledge, Lois Rowell and Fran Funderburk.

He is survived by: his sons, Donnie Michael Dawkins, Jr. (Ashley Dawkins) of Rock Hill and Mitchell Raines of Florida; his sister Jean W. Faile of Lancaster; his grandchildren, Autumn Jade Dawkins, Tristan Blaze Dawkins, Dai'Yon Mykal Dawkins, De'Auntai Jaquan Dawkins, Ny'Onsti McFadden, Melody Tessa Raines, Joshua Michael Raines, Jordan Everett Raines, Matthew Mitchell Raines and Kaleb Raines; and his great grandchild Athena Grace Beckham.
