Hortencia leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Hortencia’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around her. Though she is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support she offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Hortencia will carry forward her memory in their hearts.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Cristobal Galarza and Teresa Galarza. She is survived by: her husband Gustavo E. Velez Sr.; her children, Gustavo E. Velez Jr. (Shirelena Velez), Anthony Velez (Alma Velez) and Christine W. Santagata (Joseph Santagata III); and her grandchildren, Kennedy Velez, Jacob Velez, Joseph Santagata IV and Hailey Santagata. She is also survived by six siblings, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Saint Matthews Catholic Church (8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277).
