She was predeceased by: her parents, Lex W. Carter, Sr. and Mary Ruth Clinton Carter; her husband David L. Kirkland; and her brothers, John W. Carter, Lex W. Carter, Jr. and Timothy L. Rodgers.

She is survived by: her daughters, Lorri Helms (Robert) and Lisa Ruggiero; her brothers, Lester Carter and George "Randy" Carter; and her grandchildren, Brandi Mullis (Billie), Christopher Mullis (Alana), Alexis Sanders (La Thomas), Jordan Chandler (Daniel) and Brittany Faircloth (Davis). She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Providence Baptist Church (1947 Old Friendship Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29758). A memorial service was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
