He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Davis and Virginia Wingo Davis; his wife Doris Thompson; his daughter Lucille Thompson; and his grandson Kevin Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, James Thompson, Jr. (Teresa), Russell Thompson, Phillip Thompson, Angela Edwards (Mark) and Amanda Whiteside; and his brothers, J. L. Davis and Marshall Davis. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The lying in state will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Petty Funeral Home (124 S 562, Landrum, SC 29356).
