He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Ann Byrd; his children, Robert L. Rice, Wanda D. Byrd and Kimberly M. Byrd; his godson Na'Sir Higgins; and his siblings, Eugene Spurgeon (Carrie), Norris Spurgeon (Doris), Ronnie Spurgeon, Gordon Spurgeon, Karen Spurgeon and Theresa Casey (Bobby). He is also survived by three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 17th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Duncan Creek Baptist Church (672 Duncan Creek Church Rd, Laurens, SC 29360).
