He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph David and Onivia Graydon Childress; and his brothers, David and Kenneth Childress. He is survived by : his daughter Laurie West (Eddie) of Laurens; his grandchildren, Andrew West (Courtney) of Laurens, Emily Dasher (Aaron) of Laurens and Thomas West (Amanda) of Central; his great grandchildren, Allison West of Laurens, Mattison Dasher of Laurens, Natalie West of Laurens, Landon Dasher of Laurens, Weston Dasher of Laurens and Lauren West of Laurens; his siblings, Louise Kelly of Woodruff, Wilton Childress (Shelia) and Curtis Childress (Carolyn) of Laurens; and his sisters-in-law, Ann Childress and Anna Faye Childress of Laurens. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Saturday, May 25th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kennedy Mortuary (606 W Main St, Laurens, SC 29360). A graveside service was held on Sunday, May 26th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
