He was predeceased by: his father Harry Summer; and his brother Thomas Summer. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Summer; his children, Kendall Summer (Maria) of Fountain Inn, SC, Karen Oliver (Edward), Teresa Mozingo (Joseph) of Lexington, SC, Tina Jordan (Al) of Lexington, SC and Lisa Mosier (Jim) of Lexington, SC; his sister Ann Summer of Aiken, SC; and his parrot JoJo. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Civil Air Patrol, South Carolina Wing Headquarters, 3901 CAP Wing Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170, or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, 1301 West 1st Street, Suite E1, Granite City, IL 62040, or the charity of one's choice.
