He is survived by: his wife Dr. Jacquelyn Abney of Columbia, SC; his children, Leon Haltiwanger Abney (Erica) of Batesburg, SC and Dr. Heather Abney Thomas (Robert) of Sumter, SC; his grandchildren, Ja'tee, Te'embra, Messiah and Alayah; his mother-in-law Doreatha Jones of Gilbert, SC; his grandfather-in-law Thelma Strother of Lexington, SC; his stepmother Jannie R. Gartmon of Leesville, SC; his siblings, Carolyn Horne (Tony), Mildred Newell (Michael), Vivian Perry, Shelia Gartmon, William Gartmon (Doris), Jerome Gartmon, Slinto Perry (Mia), John Gartmon (LaRosa) and Willie Lou Davis Brown (Joe); his close friend Anthony Simpkins; and his siblings-in-law, Joyce Gary (Larry), Loretta Leaphart, Germaine Joseph (Jean), Brenda Castile, Margaret "Faye" Geter (Robert) and Frank Sutton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
