He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert S. Jeter and Hancy Barrow Jeter; his former wife Mae Porter Jeter; his wife Frances Norris Jeter; and his siblings, Pearl Scherr and Robert Lee Jeter.

He is survived by: his sister Mary Simpson of Bullock, NC; his children, Debi Brandt (John) of Savannah, GA and Gerald "Craig" Jeter (Melody) of Gaston; and his grandchildren, Jamie Jeter, Joey Brandt and Larren Kneale.
