He was predeceased by: his parents, Corine O'Neal and Earnest Leaphart; his former wife Ermanise Franklin; his daughter Renate Davis; and his siblings, James, Henry, Harry Goodwin, Dorothy and Martha Goodwin.

He is survived by: his children, Detra Jones, Marcedios Davis, Jocquelyne Holmes, Allison Way, Jemelah Sheree Franklin, Audreanna Summers and Ricky Way; and his siblings, Johnny Lee Goodwin, Ann Givens of Oceanside, CA and Annette Needom. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
