He was predeceased by: his wife Kitty; and his parents, Benjamin B. Platt and Margaret A. Platt. He is survived by: his daughters, Debra Ann Ellis (Rodney) of Sumter, SC and Linda Denise Matthews (James Jr.) of Gilbert, SC; and his grandchildren, Tara Yates of Rochester, NY, Mary Vosburgh of Hanahan, SC, Millie Norton of Sumter, SC and James "Trey" Matthews, III of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in his name be sent to Three Oaks Foundation (Hospice Group), 717 N. Harwood Street, Suite 550, Dallas, TX 75201.
