As John departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though John may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy John leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Smith Sr. and Marian Newman Smith. He is survived by: his daughter Angela Marie Tidwell (Terry) of Sumter; his sister Frances Marion Funderburke of Greenville; and his grandchildren, Summer Hill (Mike) and Zachary Tidwell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home (221 Broad St, Sumter, SC 29150). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Baptist Church (2401 Bethel Church Rd, Sumter, SC 29154).
