He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. John Homer Mathias and Ernestine Barre Mathias; his wife Carolyn Newman Mathias; and his siblings, Dr. John Homer Mathias, Jr. and Carolyn Elizabeth Mathias.
He is survived by: his children, Cathy Mathias of Lexington, Barbara Mathias (Henry Lowrance) of Chapel Hill, Amy Cleary (Robert) of Lexington and John Mathias (Michele) of Lewisville; his grandson Dr. Todd Cleary (Katie) of Lexington; his children, Shannon Williams (Jason) of Lexington and Gretchen Mathias of Lewisville; and his great grandchildren, Ella Gray of Lexington, Banks Cleary of Lexington and Daizy Williams of Lexington.
