He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry D. Whitman and Lula Revis Whitman; his grandson Josh Merck; and his siblings, Doug Whitman and Peggy Whitman.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Whitman; his children, Greg Whitman (Beverly), Terreca Merck (Billy Ray) and Sheila Craig (Danny); his grandchildren, Rev. J. D. Whitman (Grace), Rev. Jeremy Merck (Stephanie), Katelyn Roper (Patrick), Matt Craig (Ashley), Bethany Jernigan (Jarrett), Zach Wilson and Amber Wilson (Dúvon Young); and his great grandchildren, Kinsey Merck Kelly (Will), Tanner Merck, Kayedin Merck, Ella Roper, Brysen Roper, Von Young, Archer Young, Tucker Jernigan, Ryan Jernigan, Dax Jernigan, Corrie Jernigan, Livia Craig and Bowen Craig. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Liberty Mortuary (30 S Palmetto St, Liberty, SC 29657). A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Gap Hill Baptist Church (127 Gap Hill Rd, Six Mile, SC 29682). A burial will be held on Friday, November 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Gap Hill Baptist Church Cemetery (127 Gap Hill Rd, Six Mile, SC 29682).
