She was predeceased by: her parents, Jay Smith and Gwendolyn Smith; and her sister Lynn Pope. She is survived by: her husband Sanford "Lee" Schell; her children, Dottie Benjamin and Andrew Benjamin; her daughter-in-law Jan Benjamin; and her siblings, Jay W. Smith, Al Smith, Kathy Fowlkes and Jewel Johnson.
