He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Benton and Cathleen Todd Benton; his wife Jeanette Peacock Benton; his son Jamie Benton; his siblings, John Larry Benton and Helen Benton; and his brother-in-law Douglas Peacock.

He is survived by: his children, Cathie B. Tyler (Danny), Dawn Richards and Mark Richards (Donna); his daughter-in-law Priscilla Benton (late Jamie); his sister Button Benton Boyd; his sister-in-law Betty Peacock; his grandchildren, Samantha Feagin (Blake), Madison Strickland (Tyler), Ricky Mumford, Kevin Barrington (Libby) and Chris Richards (Chantal); and his close friend Eunice Barker McDowell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
