He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilson Chandler Gilchrist and Mary Eva Johnson Gilchrist; and his daughter Angel Gilchrist Burgess (Brian). He is survived by: his wife Linda Louise Twombley Gilchrist; his daughters, April Gilchrist Thomas (Eric) of Lakeland, FL and Michelle Gilchrist Marcus (Glenn) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his sister Jan Gilchrist Helsel (Steve) of Florence, S. C.; and his grandchildren, Alaine Ingram (Cameron), Austin Branham (Nicole), Brandon Marcus, Kayla Marcus, Drew Burgess, Joel Thomas and Laura Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Gideons International.
