Hazel Thomas Thigpen Obituary

We announce the death of Hazel Thomas Thigpen (Manning, South Carolina), who passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 96. Hazel will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Franklin Thigpen and Marie Hatfield Thigpen; his former wife Stella Mae Baggette Thigpen; his son Daniel Thomas Thigpen; and his siblings, Roger Thigpen, Bryan Thigpen, LaVerne Morris, Carolyn Scurry and Sylvia Peagler.

He is survived by: his wife Virginia Watkins Thigpen of Manning; his daughters, Cindy T. Brewer (Wayne) of Lumberton, NC and Cathy T. Lyle (Michael) of Guyton, GA; his stepdaughters, Rose Marie Swanson of Hanahan and Faith E. Carte (Michael Kinard) of Goose Creek; and his sisters, Joan Morris of Andrews and Gayle Taylor (Jimmy) of Andrews. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Stephens Funeral Home (304 N Church St, Manning, SC 29102). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church (2761 Liberty Church Rd, Manning, SC 29102).
