He was predeceased by: his mother Waltraud Schmelzer. He is survived by: his wife Ines Schmelzer of Mount Pleasant, SC; his children, Anna Schmelzer (Drew Lambert), Maria Rueca (Karl) and Georg Schmelzer (Ashley); and his grandchildren, Sebastian, Anthony, Amelia, Emma, Johannes and Alina.
