He was predeceased by : his parents, Edith Kratzer Cook and Harry Cook; his sister Nancy Lee Welliver; his brother-in-law Bill Welliver; and his close friend Emogene Tidd.

He is survived by : his daughters, Kimberley Peters (Joey) of Hanahan, SC and Amy Cook of Waynesboro, VA; his grandchildren, Trae Peters (Brittany) and Brittany Peters Altman (Sam); his great grandchildren, Brooklyn Peters, Reagan Peters, Cason Altman and Anna Grace Altman; his sister Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Cook-Miller (John); his nieces, Debra Welliver Kiracofe, Kathy Welliver Southerly and Lauren Ochletree Walker; and his nephew Travis Ochletree.
