He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Joseph Nelson, Sr. and Susan Catherine Nelson; his former wife Louise McCulloch Nelson; his wife Emma Wilhelmsen Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his sister Helen Lindsey of Albany, GA; and his children, Jo Garvin (John), John J. Nelson, Jr. (Deborah), Christine Pederson, Diane Davis of Montgomery, AL, Kathy Hicks (Steve) of Knoxville, TN, Joann Westberry (Clifford) and Jay Nelson (Shauna). He was also cherished by 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
