He was predeceased by: his parents, John Lawton Sanders and Jewel Andrews Sanders; and his wife Barbara Rogers. He is survived by: his children, David L. Rogers (Norma), William P. Rogers (Jeannie), Diana "Deedee" Rogers Malley (Bill) and Laurin Kier (Jen). He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren.
