He was predeceased by: his parents, David Alston and Fannie Jones Alston of Wake County, NC; his wife Vernell Chestnut Alston of Myrtle Beach, SC; his siblings, Anne Mae Hartsfield, Lucy Mae Alston of Elizabeth, Alston Tyler, Sophia Hodge, Jonny, Calvin, Ervin, James Howard and Claude Lee Alston; his brother-in-law Prince Bowens Jr.; and his grandchildren, Raesaan Sinclair, NaQuon Brown and Sequoia Brown.
He is survived by: his daughter Deshana Alston; his grandchildren, Laquavia Alston, Lakeitha Alston, Shaqueta Alston, Maliyah Sinclair, Jamaal Graham, Byron Graham and James Chestnut; his sister-in-law Queen Bowens; his sibling's children, Carol Ann Walker, Mackel Steven Hodge, Inonia Hodge-Bonner (Willie), Shirley Debnam, Greg Alston, Brenda Richardson, Wanda Alston, Diane Alston, George M. Hodge, Jr., Claude Alston, Jr., Colette Alston, Rhonda Alston, Kasheba Bowens, Kamarra Bowens, Jahsearie Bowens and Alexia Lewis; and his sons, James Edward Chestnut and Ray Anthony Chestnut. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church (1008 Carver St, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
