He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Thompson and Edith Howell Thompson; his former wife Elsie Cameron Thompson; his wife Marian Dunfee Thompson; his son Timothy; his daughter-in-law Karen Thompson; his granddaughters, Melissa Cunningham and Tessa Thompson; and his siblings, Vernon, Glen, Cloyd, Marion, Vince, Melvin Thompson, Vivian Thompson, Lois Thompson Conley and Dorothy Beaird.

He is survived by: his children, Dianna Cunningham Allport (David) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rick Thompson (Diane) of Orlando, FL and Mark Thompson (Adriean) of Cadiz, OH; his grandchildren, Marci Coleman of Charleston, SC, Roger Cunningham (Caryn) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Trevor Thompson of Cadiz, OH, Tyler Thompson of Cincinnati, OH and Ryan Thompson of Orlando, FL; and his great grandchildren, Tyler Eaddy, Austin Coleman and Breanna Cunningham.
