He was predeceased by: his parents, George McClelland "Mack" Canan and Thelma Mary Crowley Canan; and his wife Loretta Ann Prestandrea. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Patrick J. Canan (Mary Beth Grotz) of Annapolis, Maryland, Scott A. Canan (Giuliana Muzzatti) of Charleston and Christine M. Ver Straate (Tom Ver Straate) of Lone Tree, Colorado.; his grandchildren, Mackinley, Riley, Cecilia, Natalie, Luke, Thomas, Vivienne, Allison, Andrew, Matthew and William; his great grandchildren, Axton, Akaiya, Dustin, Walker and Ozzie Lou; and his siblings, Michael Canan, Thomas Lathrop, John Lathrop and Mary Jo Lathrop. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
