He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Delvin Lindsey and Eva MacIntyre Smith; his sister Linda Smith Bolding; his former wife Sue Hunnicutt Smith; his wife Louise Spann Smith; his children, Eva Marie Smith of Spartanburg, Richard Lane Smith of Spartanburg, Susan Smith Thompson (Benjamin) of Raleigh, Bryant Mackey (Tracey) of Küsnacht Switzerland and Dargan Mackey Mudge (Matthew) of Greenville; and his grandchildren, Robert Lane Smith, Andrew Douglas Smith, Benjamin Lane Thompson, Charles Sheffield Mackey, Sarah Courtney Mackey, Allison Grace Mackey, David Robert Mackey, Rowan Dale Mudge, Samuel Bryant Mudge, Eleanor Louise Mudge and Brittany Cromer Taylor.
