The memory of Mae Mathias of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, born in Wise, Virginia, who passed away on April 22, 2024 at the age of 89, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. She was predeceased by : her parents, Thurman Whitaker and Lola Moore; and her brothers, Odell Whitaker, Lamar Whitaker, John Owens and Jack Owens.

She is survived by : her husband Leslie N. Mathias; her siblings, Virginia Owens and Robert Owens; her children, Tony Mathias (Sheilah), Pam Craig (Jim), Barbara Florence (Mike) and Tim Mathias (Julie); her grandchildren, Amber Amos (Tyler), Tara Bennett (Grant), Danae Jeter, Mark Mathias (Lauren), Cara Tomko, Michelle Dolly, Jeff Craig, Brett Florence (Heather), Brock Florence (Ashley), Anna Rittmeyer (Nico) and Callie Clausen (Jacob); and her great grandchildren, Haynes, Finley, Lola, Briggs Amos, Paxton Bennett, Ella Tomko, Guy Dolly, Brooklyn Florence, Ava Florence and Arlo Clausen. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Burroughs Funereal Home. A celebration of life was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services (3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576). A burial was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Florence National Cemetery (803 E National Cemetery Rd, Florence, SC 29506).
