He was predeceased by: his parents, Perry Bates, Jr. and Helen Bates. He is survived by: his children, Zaviea B. Sanders of Whitmire, SC, Taparrish J. Sims of Newberry, SC, Alton Bates of Atlanta, GA and Cameron Bates of Atlanta, GA; and his siblings, Tanaka Holmes of Newberry, SC, Tanya McClurkin of Newberry, SC and Daniel Wright (Cassandra). He is also survived by three grandchildren, three aunts, two uncles, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, June 1st 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the F. B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home (601 South St, Newberry, SC 29108). A celebration of life was held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bethlehem Baptist Church (1501 College St, Newberry, SC 29108).
