He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Baxter and Ida Tobe Baxter; his son Robert Sligh; and his siblings, Freddie Lee Baxter, Rebecca Baxter, Elizabeth Baxter and Mildred Crooks.
He is survived by: his wife Johnnie Mae Baxter; his sons, George E. Baxter, Jr. (Angela) and Frederick Bush; his siblings, Thomasina Eigner (Obie), Carolyn Cooper and Larry Baxter (Carolen) of Newberry, SC; his daughter-in-law Latissius Davis-Sligh; and his siblings-in-law, Victoria Chalmers, Mary White, Serephine Willingham and Robert Crooks. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the F. B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home (601 South St, Newberry, SC 29108). A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Metropolitan Baptist Church (715 County Rd S-36-67, Newberry, SC 29108).
