He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Sims, Sr. and Viola Chick Sims; and his brother Charles Sims, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Jeter Sims; his children, James Sims, Jr. (Marcia), Curtis Sims, Charlethea Sims and Mareshia Caldwell; his brother Thornton Lee Sims (Carolyn); his mother-in-law Elizabeth Jeter; and his siblings-in-law, Alice Sims, Barbara Jeter, Mary Jeter, Jacquelyn Jeter and Romia Jeter. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
